Our History

In 1964 a couple of people employed in the field of building operations got together to discuss and solve the problems they encountered in their work.

 The group called itself the Calgary Building Superintendents Association. The association registered with the Societies Branch on May 26, 1967

BOMA ONLINE BUILDING OPERATOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 150 Hours

  The BOMA Calgary Building Operator Training program is a comprehensive course that prepares students for the 5th Class ticket and provincial exam from the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA). More than just a 5th Class ticket, this course is specifically designed for commercial building operations and is instructed by veteran building operation experts. Taught over 150 hours (exceeding the industry standard), this program has a strong record of providing the industry with well educated and competent operators.

Bio:  Derrick Moes has been in the industry since 2002, with a background in electric motor rewind training at SAIT. He has held various positions, including inside and outside sales, and has developed strong skills through his experience coaching youth hockey. Recently, Derrick co-founded Academy Pump and Motor with Lincoln Jones, and is excited to share the company's capabilities and future plans with the Building Operations Community.

Cost -Effective Solutions for Tackling Indoor Air Pollution From Parkade to Penthouse

Kae Shummoogum with Gasonic Group has recently completed his research paper titled  'Exhaust Gas Sensor Performance Research for Healthier & Safer Parkades’.


Kae has generously agreed to share his research findings with us and update us on his recommendations for implementing specific strategies can lead to healthier air throughout the building while reducing energy and maintenance costs. 

Kae has been a frequent contributor to our monthly meeting educational talks and is a go-to subject expert with his 38 years of expertise being at the forefront of hazardous gas detection and indoor air quality monitoring in Calgary.

Bio: 

Adam Fonseca is a multidisciplinary power generation professional from Calgary. His educational background is in mechanical and electrical engineering technology as well as mechanical engineering. 15+ years in the electrical industry where he began his career in generators and transfer equipment in the mid 2000’s. 

He is now one of the owners & executive staff at Point8 Power Systems Ltd. where they focus on power generation systems in the emergency and prime power segments. A specific focus on cogeneration & thermal systems from service, sales & design. Erik Wathen is a multidisciplinary power generation professional from Calgary. His educational background is in heavy duty technician & electrician trades. Erik has 20 years of experience in the power generation industry having started his career as a generator technician through to service operations, technical support & “train the trainer” roles. 

Erik is now part of the executive team at Point8 Power Systems as the director of product support.

George Niksic is a C.E.T, a graduate of SAIT's HVAC design program and the University of Athabasca in Business Administration. with 35 years experience in management, design and sales roles in the HVAC, Electrical and Construction industries. His current role is Business Development with Aqua Air Systems, and he is on the board of SAC—ASHRAE as the RP Chair.

Long Tran, a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Calgary, currently an Engineer in Training (EIT). While relatively new to the HVAC industry, he brings a keen enthusiasm for learning and exploring different innovative solutions. In his current role as an Applications Engineer at Aqua Air Systems, Long is dedicated to expanding his knowledge. He is also an active member of ASHRAE.
